Our patients have the highest rates of poverty, admissions for violence, maternal deaths, incarceration, and HIV in NYC. Live expectancy in our area is 6.1 years less on average than other areas in NYC.
Our Community
Initially a settlement comprised of Jewish factory workers, Brookdale and its surrounding community have grown since the 1950's to a primarily Afro-Caribbean population. This area unfortunately has the highest crime and poverty rates in New York City. The community has great need of quality medical care and the experience you get here will be unlike any other. Many of our residents and attendings see things most other medical professionals only read about.... on a daily basis!
